Hi, everyone.
I started this morning’s email with a message that said, essentially, that no matter what happens with the GOP’s budget “I will be okay and I will survive this.” As at least one reader has pointed out, however, not all of us will be OK if these cuts happen. The stakes are quite literally life and death for some. That reader is right, and I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to sound glib but I can see how I might have.
What I do know is that no matter what happens we will hang together, help each other, and get through it as best we can. That is what I should have said, and what I’ve changed the online version to reflect.
Thanks, all. Have a great day!
Jess
I really appreciate this "correction." I am 72 years old and have been living with a once life-threatening condition, thankfully now chronic. I was slammed by a rare autoimmune disease at age 28 in my last year of nursing school. Was very sick for many years, so have been grateful to have the safety nets of HUD, SNAP, Medicare and Medicaid (which I pay an overage of $85 month when I need medical care). So, the "we'll be ok" message hit me kind of hard too, but I know that everyone means well, so just tried to read it that way. It means a lot that you would come back and acknowledge that for some of us, this upcoming vote could change our lives dramatically, so it very scary right now. I very much appreciate all of the work that you are doing.
Thanks for that wider thought, and to your reader for speaking up. I’m grateful for how much you are doing every day to bring us together and help us to take action. It’s an amazing gift. Thank you.
